Real reason MVA lost MH

By:

We are launching our first contest! Find the real reason MVA lost Maharashtra elections!

Often we see posts in SM asking people to explain something with the caveat - wrong answers only! We were inspired by that.

What’s the reward? It is a one year free subscription to read this website. A $0 value! Sorry this is the best we can do, we are no Ford foundation or Soros “Open” society.

Soon after results were announced a few days back, a real fight broke out amongst the Palazzo domestic servants or “fearless independent journalists” and “expert analysts” as they call each other. Who is to blame for the loss? Here is a quick profile of the contestants. Note we are going after ideas not individuals, so this award is also for the idea not to some person. But biased as any fearless journalist as we are, we make one thing clear - don’t blame Shri Rahul Gandhi. That will disqualify the entry straightaway.

In fact the entire exercise is to make sure he never gets any blame.

I am not sure about Congress, but I can bet you, BJP will be surely very upset if he were to resign as a result of this great moral victory.

Here it is, in no particular order.

  1. EVM! This must always be somewhere up there in the top 3 if not #1. Of late, a new backup plan has emerged - that of backup battery. If it is anything more than 70%, it is a sure sign of “manipulation”. In fact, in some constituencies like the one Swara’s husband contested, the manipulators were so clever, they let the 1st 18 rounds go his way and manipulated the rest! That was really cruel. May be next time Amit Shah (or was it Amit Malaviya?) must manipulate uniformly so such distortions don’t take place. After all, machines are counted in no particular order.
  2. Courtiers Nominated by Rasheed Kidwai, a prominent journalist. He thinks Jairam Ramesh and some Kanugolu (no he’s not a James Bond villain) formed a coterie to “prevent” Rahul Gandhi and Khargeji from succeeding. This is really sad considering the stellar track record of Rahul in leading his party to victory after victory. That this coterie could prevent his winning shows how strong it is.
  3. ex CJ Chandrachud - nominated by Sanjaya Raut. Let us not say too much about this since the strength of logic of this entry speaks for itself. And the person nominating is known for his logical and sensible statements.
  4. Counter polarisation - whatever that means. Nominated by Saba Naqvi. One would have thought “polarisation” itself is enough because that automatically results in seperation of two sides. But she added “counter” to make it stronger. Mohatarma has forgotten one simple thing - for BJP to “counter polarise”, someone else must “polarise” first. But then that is not an issue at all. She says Muslim clerics who made “some statements” because they live in “conservative space” got “amplified” by media. The “some statement” she refers to is likely that of Maulana Sajjad Nomani, spokesperson of the All India Muslim Personal law board. He had sort of said if a Muslim votes BJP, he must rename himself to “Ghanshyam” and get expelled from the community. We all know what the punishment for such crimes is in “conservative spaces” that Saba Naqvi so blithely talks about. This article is about rewarding reasons for defeat, not “whitewashing bigotry” championship, but Saba Naqvi does put up a strong entry in that contest too! You see a guy that says sending girls to schools go to hell is just a “conservative space”. Exactly like WaPO called ISIS Caliph Baghdadi a “religious scholar”.
  5. RSS coordination - so many have nominated this candidate that we don’t need to name any. It seems if Haryana win can be laid at the door of “booth level work”, MH upset for MVA is due to this ‘coordination’ whatever that means. But it does carry a ring of truth. If, as liberals say, Maharashtra was so upset with Modi and BJP, with onion farmers, workers, jobless, Marathas, Dharavi, Dalits, women, minority, youth, students (did I leave any?) all extremely upset, nothing like a visit by a friendly shaka pramukh in khaki pants to make you forget all your worries and vote BJP.
  6. Dole for women - this candidate for the award made Ravish Pandeyji really upset. He was so concerned about debt and finances. Concerns he naturally did not have for Jharkhand which is a budget surplus rich state unlike MH which is so backward and poor. Now, don’t be a spoil sport and say MVA also offered the same or even better (without triggering any budget panic by Pandeyji). That is being a Sanghi.

Who will get the award? Your nominations are welcome!
